Songwriter Maiah Wynne has had a very busy year. In March, she finished second in Sound Off!, a competition held by the Museum Of Pop Culture in Seattle that’s designed to unearth talented Pacific Northwest musicians under the age of 21. Due to her standout performance, the precocious talent earned a session appearance at KEXP and several slots at regional summer festivals. Then, she went out on tour with Portland Cello Project.

Now, Wynne is launching a new, ambitious project that’s sure to keep her occupied. She has plans to release 12 songs — one each month — over the course of the next year. This staggered album release starts with the track “Sleep,” which opbmusic is sharing today.

It’s a gorgeous piece of orchestral folk pop that hides a sinister lyrical theme familiar to the songwriter: night terrors. Wynne has suffered from the sleeping disorder since childhood. “The great ones are when I’m singing in my sleep,” she jokingly told her hometown paper The Missoulan earlier this year.

You can catch Maiah Wynne tonight (Friday, Oct. 19) in Portland at Secret Society along with Hayley Lynn and Haley Johnsen. She also has two upcoming gigs at McMenamins Edgefield Winery in Troutdale, Ore. on Nov. 4 and Dec. 23.
